Jack Roche - Player, Captain and Manager of the Independents from 1912-1915. (9/16/14) 1912 - Was elected captain and played in 6 games while starting at 4 positions for the Independents. 1913 - Roche took over as manager of the Independents and the team was often referred to as "Roche's Independents". 1914 - Roche stayed on in 1914 to play and manage the team. 1915- Roche gave up the Management duties to Walter Flanigan. 1916 - Roche called for the Independents to form for the 1916 season unaware the Walter Flanigan was planning on organizing the team himself. After several meetings it was decided the Roche would combine his men and join forces with a team from Moline. After not scheduling a game in week 2, most players jumped to other teams and never came back. Prior to the 3rd week, Roche turned over the lease to 3I park to Flanigan and his Rock Island Team. The Flanigan eleven even took over part of Roche's schedule. John passed away on June 6th, 1957 in Rock Island, IL
