Dewey Lyle was born in Minneapolis Minnesota and grew up attending schools there. He attended St. Thomas college and the University of Minnesota where he played football. In 915 he joined the professional Minneapolis Marines. In 1919 he played for the Independents, he played for the team thru 1922. He was named to the 1921 all pro team. Dewey also played 15 years of professional baseball under the name Carlyle in the old American League. He moved his family to Paso Robles after he retired from sports after becoming familiar with it during his scouting trips for the Pittsburg Pirates which started in 1923. He bought a restaraunt and started another family business in the Almond industry. He also coached football at Occidental College under Sid Nichols a friend from his Minneapolis and Rock Island football days. Dewey worked in the Almond Orchards into his 80's.
