INDEPENDENTS USE ALL STAR TEAM TO GET BACK ON TRACK Manager Mullaney of the Collegians informed Flanigan that Captain Garbisch had told him that his college superiors had caught wind that eight of their football players were planning on playing in a professional football game in Rock Island. |
Garbisch nor any of his men showed up. Stein of W & J, Mullaney of Georgetown, Shannon of Ohio State and Lentz of West Virginia did show however. |
The rest of the team was comprised of not so famous players and apparently whomever they could find in the crowd that day. One such player of note was Guy Morrison of the 1920 Evansville Evas. Morrison had 1 long run but it was evident he was not in playing shape. Many of the players seemed to respond to several names implying that some of them were playing under aliases.
