INDEPENDENTS WIN RETURN GAME VS ROCKFORD Rock Island avenged its embarrassing loss to Rockford AAC on Sunday. The Independents started slow with Vic Bredimus having to play quarterback for the injured Nips Murphy. Up by a score of only 7-6 late in the 3rd period, Murphy came in off the bench to lead Rock Island to 4 touchdown drives. Walt Brindley played his best game of the year. He rushed for 3 scores and threw for another. Brindley also played well on defense, he recovered a fumble and had an interception in the 4th quarter with he game still in doubt. The final score of the the day was his fake FG attempt, instead of kicking the ball he threw a 30 yard strike to Ted Guyer who caught the pass and carried it 5 yards for the touchdown. Brindley added 4 extra points to bring his total points to 22 not counting the TD pass. |
