INDEPENDENTS LOSE TO RED MEN The rival Red Men were only able to gain 3 first downs but it was enough to get the win. Playing a field position game, the Indians hit a place kick from the 20 yard line in the 1st quarter to take a 3-0 lead. The Indians were then able to stop the Independents from getting close enough to take a shot at even tying the game. “Nips” Murphy started at quarter back and was able to connect on a few passes though most sailed over their intended target. Murphy was able to run the Osborn shift that he brought with him from Clinton High. The shift netted the Independents several long gains but they were never able to put it all together.
