INDEPENDENTS LOSE CLAIM TO STATE CHAMPIONSHIP November 21tst, 2:30 -Wolters nearly single handedly defeated the Independents here in Rock Island yesterday. Twice in the first quarter he broke through the Independents punt formation, one time blocking and then recovering the kick; shortly after Woodyatt placed a drop kick through the uprights.
|
Chances - The injured Murphy had a chance to tie it in the 3rd quarter but the kick missed. In the 4th quarter Murphy tried again to tie the game, Meersman blocked the kick and raced 65 yards before being caught by Cook at the Independents 5 yard line. On the next play Woodyatt took ball over goal and the Independents were stunned. Source -Rock Island Argus November 22nd, 1915 |
