INDEPENDENTS ORGANIZE FOR 1914 SEASON

INDEPENDENTS HOLD FIRST MEETING OF 1914

September 14, 1914 - Team will practice 4 times per week until the first game and then 2 times per week after. First Practice to be held tomorrow at Island City Park.

Quarterback - The Independents report that long time quarterback Ernest MacManus may be leaving the team and playing for the rival, Moline Red Men. Charlie McGinnis is ready to step in to quarterback the team, he assumes he can hold off any others who may challenge for the open spot.

SUCCESSFUL SEASON ENDS

December 14th, 1914 - The Independents held their annual banquet last night at the Rock Island house. The team ended the season with 5 wins and 2 losses. The team scored 160 points while allowing just 22. Financially the team expenses were up as they paid more to bring in faster competition. The ticket collections at the gate were nearly the same as in 1913. All proceeds will be split evenly by the organization and players.

Order of Business - Jack Roche has stepped down as manager of the team. Walter Flanigan was voted in as manager for the 1915 team. Dick Liitt has also decided to step down as coach. Lee Liitt has agreed to coach the team next year. Art Salzmann was elected captain for the second straight season.

Rankings - O. Gage, sporting editor of the Springfield Record has come out with his Illinois Independent football rankings. He lists the Evanston North Ends as #1, Rock Island Independents as #2 and the Taylorville Independents as #3.
