INDEPENDENTS WIN OPENER October 5th - Scheduled to open the season against the South Muscatine Athletic Club, management had to scramble to find an opponent. Muscatine's manager phoned at 9:30 to ask that his team be excused, stating that they were stuck in a torrential downpour in Muscatine.

With the help of some of the Independent reserves, a group of men formed to oppose the locals. The Davenport West Side Pickups fought a good battle and trailed just 6-0 as the final quarter began.Loyal Robb scored on an 8 yard run and then again later on a brilliant 50 yard run to seal the game for Rock Island.
